Radio Course

I have to give you all an apology. Since September of last year I have been on a Radio and Podcasting course. It is a HNC so the first step in getting a degree, and being 54 it is really strange to be back in the classroom. They say that life is one learning journey and they are right of course.

If you ever get a chance to engage with education in something that will make your life better then…do it. Do not hesitate. Do not put it off. Embrace it. Will it be easy…not always. But if you do it there is less chance you will regret it than not doing it.

I believe in you πŸ™‚

That being said how many of you would like to write radio, and in particular radio stuff for kids (and people who are kids at heart)?

  1. I have loved radio ever since I was a little girl living on an isolated farm in rural Tennessee. I learned that if I crept out of bed after everyone else was asleep, I could turn on the radio in the kitchen VERY softly and listen to voices coming from far away exotic places: Chicago, Havana, even Cincinnati! The miracle of “skip” made the voices in the dark travel far, and this radio became my window to a larger world. Later on I discovered shortwave, and the world was mine!

I’ve never considered writing for radio, but it is an exciting thought. I don’t have much of a voice for radio, but I love the idea of my words going out over the airwaves to entertain children and adults. I’ve got lots of stories to tell.

So tell me, what’s my next step?

    All best

    1. HI, Nice to hear from you. I now have a few emails and website/podcast things going on. I have to say it has me in a muddle as to which email is for which content platform πŸ™‚ I think I am getting it now though…slowly. The radio has now to some extent been replaced by podcasts. Which I see as radio on demand really. It is all becoming very niche, which I think is good as diversity makes the world a lot richer.
I started the radi0/podcast course to learn how to do audio drama, which I felt would use some of my skills. We are near the end of the course, and I have learned some bits but will probably have to find my own route through.

If you wish to have a go at writing for radio then there are a lot of resources out there. I keep stacking them up here, and then find that I have so many I don’t know where to start. It is like having an enormous buffet, and just being stunned by it…..where to tuck in. I am sure that it would be possible for me to through the blog put something together which I will collate from what I have around me….with a little additional sparkle.

I have been working on writing prompts, which I was putting on the bird app. I have one collection of 120 which is free to download (with not a catch in sight) πŸ™‚

I started out thinking that I would write enough for a couple of books, and ermmm now have twelve years worth.

(Still not good enough in my book lol)

They are created to make people’s heads swivel a bit, as I have tried to combine ideas in short that probably shouldn’t go together. I have looked back at them and the thought that arises is “Where on Earth was my head when I thought that”. It is like a stream of consciousness deal.
