Dragon Birthday Cake

I was lucky sometime ago to see a birthday cake that had been made by Michelle Leverington. I thought that it might well encourage you to think about what kind of foods you could come up with for Dragon week? Can anyone come up with a drink? Maybe Dragon’s blood. Or snacks that could be served at a Dragon party. Let your imagination go.

You could even use the picture of the cake for a story prompt. Thank you to Michell for allowing me to use the photograph. As always have fun with it. You can not get it wrong.

Wonderful Dragon Costume

Really speaking we are looking at using things that you can find around the house for your dragon costume. But I thought it would be nice for you to see what happens when you have resources and skills to do something more. Start today with bin bags and paper plates, and maybe sometime in the future you might feel like having a go at something like this:

Dragon Masks

So A dragon costume is going to need a dragon mask right. I have found a few examples of ways of doing this, and hope that some of them will be of use for your creation. It is possible to even combine some of the ideas, or start from scratch. The first is simply using a paper plate as a base:

Here is another example of a dragon face that you could make

And if you really want to go to town then this video will show you how to make something that will take a bit more time to do.

Whatever you come up with it would be great to see it. Have a play around and don’t take it too seriously. Remember you can’t really go wrong. 🙂 When you have finished send some pictures in to thestoryshedblog@gmail.com

Dinsdale’s Writing Prompts 17/09/2020

Hope you are all doing well. Today the prompts we are going to use are things that you might find in the bathroom:

water

sink

rubber duck

sponge

soap

toothbrush

Hope you can come up with something magical. You can use all of the words or maybe one or two. Don’t forget it can be used for a story or a poem or even a short play if you want. What is the main rule? That you have fun with it 🙂

Dragon Wings

So I figured if you want a dragon costume there are a few things that you need to have in place. I wanted to make something that you could do at home out of materials that are quite common. I am going to concentrate in this post on the wings.

They have used fabrics here, but I am wondering if you snip a bin bag so you have a flat sheet if you can do this with that. I am guessing you would have to be careful that you didn’t rip the plastic. It would probably need some kind of decoration, which could either be painted on, or designed with paper and glued on.

Here is a more complex way of doing it, if you want a challenge 🙂

Counting down to Dragon Week

The 21st of this month will be the start of Dragon week, but to get us in the mood we will be putting a link up every day to give you some ideas for making your dragon costume. We are hoping to try and make a couple by the end of the week. There will be stories about our fire breathing friends, and hopefully some food related posts here too. Don’t forget you can send suggestions to thestoryshedblog@gmail.com

In the meantime here is something to help you think about your design for a costume:

Thank you to Toya for creating this resource.

I wonder if we will get our dragon made in time 🙂

Dinsdales Writing Prompt (extra) 13/09/2020

Dinsdale has been on Facebook (when I wasn’t looking as he is far too young to be on there), and he found this image from the group Crafts On a Budget Official. Dinsdale tells me that they do some fantastic crafts there and you should all go and take a look. You might get some wonderful creative ideas. One of the things he spotted were these little fellas made by Sue Taylor. I am sure they will inspire you to write some wonderful stuff.

Don’t forget that you can always send your writing to thestoryshedblog@gmail.com. Have fun with it, and see what you can create.
